Call For Abstracts

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the top ten public health threats facing humanity. It threatens the effective prevention and treatment of an increasing range of infections. While responsible antimicrobial use and antimicrobial stewardship are essential to addressing AMR, infection prevention and control (IPC) is equally fundamental. Every infection prevented is an infection that does not require antimicrobial treatment. Effective IPC measures include hand hygiene, environmental cleaning and disinfection, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, healthcare-associated infection prevention, vaccination, safe injection practices, surveillance, and implementation of standard and transmission-based precautions. These measures can reduce the transmission of infections and limit the unnecessary use of antimicrobials. In doing so, IPC contributes directly to reducing the emergence and spread of antimicrobial-resistant organisms

The IPCRO 2026 Conference brings together healthcare professionals, researchers, public health practitioners, policymakers, educators, and other stakeholders to share evidence, innovations, experiences, and practical solutions at the intersection of infection prevention and control and antimicrobial resistance.
Under the theme:

“Strengthening Infection Prevention and Control to reduce Antimicrobial Resistance: Evidence, Action and Impact”
we invite researchers, practitioners, students, policymakers, and partners to submit abstracts highlighting evidence and experiences that can strengthen IPC and contribute to the global response to AMR.

Abstract Submission Guidelines and Information

  • Original research
  • Programme evaluations
  • Quality improvement projects
  • Implementation experiences
  • Innovative interventions
  • Policy and practice perspectives
  • Case studies

We particularly encourage submissions that demonstrate measurable impact, innovative approaches, lessons learned, and practical solutions that can be adapted and implemented in different healthcare and community settings.

  • Word limit: Maximum 250 words, excluding the title, authors, affiliations, and keywords.
  • Title: Concise and informative. Avoid unnecessary abbreviations.
  • Authors: List up to 10 authors who contributed to the study.
  • Structure: Abstracts should be structured under the following headings:
    • Background: Brief context and rationale.
    • Methods: Study design, setting, participants, and key methods.
    • Results: Main findings and, where applicable, key data.
    • Conclusion: Main conclusions, implications, and relevance to infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance.
  • Keywords: Provide 3–5 keywords that reflect the main concepts of the abstract.

Accepted abstracts may be selected for:

  • Oral presentation
  • Poster presentation

The Scientific Committee will determine the presentation format. Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment by the presenting author to present the work if accepted.

All authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest. Commercial products should not be promoted in abstracts. Trade names should not appear in abstract titles.

Where applicable, authors must confirm that appropriate ethical approval, institutional authorization or other required permissions were obtained. Patient confidentiality must be protected.

Previously presented work may be considered where it contains substantial new findings, updated data or significant new analysis. Authors should clearly indicate any relevant previous presentation or publication.

Abstracts will be reviewed by the IPCRO Scientific Committee according to:

  • Scientific and technical quality
  • Relevance to IPC and/or AMR
  • Originality
  • Clarity of objectives and methods
  • Quality of results
  • Strength of conclusions
  • Practical relevance
  • Potential impact

  • Abstract submission opens: 01 October 2026
  • Submission deadline: 06 November 2026
  • Notification of acceptance: 14 November 2026
  • Conference: 27 November 2026

Selected high-quality abstracts presented at the conference will be included in an IPCRO conference abstract collection and proceedings for submission to an appropriate infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance scientific journal.

Publication is based on scientific quality and relevance. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy of their submitted work.

The conference is supported through funding from Pfizer through the Accord for a Healthier World. The funding supports the conference and its educational objectives. Abstract review, scientific selection and presentation decisions will be made independently according to scientific merit and relevance.
